Talk Back: GSIS pensions not withheld
By Ella E. Valencerina
Vice President-Public Affairs, GSIS

THIS pertains to the letter sent by Mr. Illo V. Cardosa, titled "Pensioner's Plight," (Sun.Star Cebu, March 28, 2008).

Thankyou for bringing this matter to our attention once again.

We would like to stress that, contrary to Mr. Cardosa's view, GSIS is not withholding the pension and benefits of our pensioners.

Maybe what he was alluding to was the situation of some pensioners who have not yet renewed their active status during their birth month, resulting to the suspension of their pension.

There is nothing malicious with this GSIS requirement, as it is just a mechanism by which the pensioners themselves can ensure the continuous receipt of their monthly pension.

This requirement, in fact, empowers the pensioners as they hold the key to their own pension.

For the record, Mr. Cardosa's monthly pension is updated and electronically credited to this eCard Plus mainly because of his dutiful compliance of this requirement.

We hope other pensioners would be as compliant as Mr. Cardosa in this regard.

Lastly, the financial figures we had mentioned in our previous letter is not a mere publicity stunt but is rather a sheer statement of fact.

The Commission on Audit, which regularly inspects our books, can vouch for the veracity of our figures.
