Friday, April 04, 2008 Cebu gets 2 slots at RP softball Olympics
IT’S official.
The Cluster eliminations for the national softball competition is reserved for the 2008 Philippine Olympic Festival, but Cebu will get two slots to the 2008 National Open Softball Championship.
Cebu softball official and tournament organizer Dionisio Bacarisas told Sun.Star-Cebu that the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asa-Phil) had reserved the cluster elimination for the POF, but instead Cebu automatically gets two slots to the National championships, which will be held in Lipa City, Batangas on May 12 to 22.
“Asaphil had reconsidered the clustering, since we are out of time, instead they awarded us two slots to the national championships, which is even better,” said Bacarisas.
Bacarisas learned about this from his younger brother Zacharias, who is the current RP Blu Boys head coach.
However, one slot has been reserved for the defending champions H & B Softball Team—which will likely have the Manila-based Cebuanos filling up the lineup.
“For the H & B team, probably we will have the players who are currently in Manila. Like my nephews, my brothers who are no longer in the national team, will be in it because we also consider the transportation expenses. Completing the team are the players who are in it last year,” said Bacarisas.
Only three of the current members of the RP Blu Boys are allowed to play in each team and Bacarisas considered having second baseman Roldan Bacarisas, pitcher Edsel Bacarisas and catcher Manuel Bacarisas Jr. for the H & B team.
Jasper Cabrera, Oscar Bradshaw and Darius Bacarisas will reinforce the second Cebu team. Completing the second squad are the best players in Cebu now.
“We already had some players in the lineup for the second Cebu team and hopefully we could find sponsor for this team the soonest possible time,” said Bacarisas.
Dionisio is basing his selection in the ongoing Vice Gov. Gregory Sanchez Softball Cup which will be on its final Sunday. (RCM)
