Mindanao councilor falls in PDEA 7 raid
GOVERNMENT agents arrested two men, one of them a Mindanao-based barangay councilor, in a buy-bust operation in Consolacion, Cebu last Wednesday.
Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 seized two packs of shabu from Alden Abdulmanan, 24, of Barangay Piyo Tabogon, and Joseph Gaviola, 38, of Barangay Pulpugan, both of Consolacion town.
PDEA 7 Intelligence Officer 2 Levi Valmoria said they recovered the P5,000 buy-bust money, a Yamaha motorcycle (8239GC) and a DILG-issued ID of Abdulmanan.
The ID showed that Abdulmanan is a barangay kagawad of Lumbac Tugaya, Lanao del Sur.
“But we still have to confirm it with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) if indeed he is a barangay official,” said Valmoria.
Buy-bust
The PDEA 7 set up the buy-bust after they arrested a drug suspect, who also hails from Mindanao, in Consolacion last April 2.
Valmoria said the arrested man reportedly identified Abdulmanan as his alleged cohort in the illegal drug trade.
In the actual buy-bust, a PDEA 7 team collared Abdulmanan after he allegedly handed down two packs of shabu to a poseur-buyer across a popular food chain in Cansaga, Consolacion around 2 p.m.
No resistance
Valmoria said they also arrested Gaviola, the motorcycle driver, as he was around during the drug bust. They did not resist arrest.
The PDEA 7 civilian agent was reportedly proposing to buy five grams of shabu worth P35,000.
Valmoria said the genuine money totaled only P5,000 as the rest were all bogus bills.
He said the PDEA already prepared the filing of criminal charges against the two suspects for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002. (GC)
