Visual meet
By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano

For the second edition of “Art Link” (the first exhibit was in 2005), a much larger show was prepared for a bigger number of artists from Manila and Cebu in participation. It was held at the Cebu Country Club.

Let’s immediately do the numbers: 24 artists from Cebu, and 17 of their counterparts from the national capital.

A total of 41 artists, all too many to enumerate, were required to exhibit two paintings each. Hence, as a whole, the three-day weekend show had 82 artworks.

With these figures and even this early, there is no doubt it already is the biggest show for this year.

It was organized by Kaalyado Ng Sining, a group founded with the aim of unifying Filipino visual artists to work toward national visibility and recognition of Philippine visual arts.

The exhibition featured the works of two renowned painters from Manila, Romulo Galicano of Cebu and Angel Cacnio.

Its enormity really showed viewers the various directions and tendencies that are practiced by contemporary Filipino artists.

The second day of the exhibit was full of activities.

It started with an on-the-spot art demonstration, lecture and workshop. The activity was participated in by enthusiastic art students from different high schools and colleges in the city.

Also simultaneously happening was an artist’s interaction.

They did a a collaborative or collective large-scale artwork to render a symbolic demonstration of solidarity by creating a single masterpiece. Due to the rare experience like this, the artists are now agog for an encore.
