Tricycle driver killed in dawn attack in Talisay

A MOTORCYCLE-riding gunman shot several times a trisikad driver in Central Biasong, Talisay City last Sunday dawn, police said.

Edwin Umambac, 30, single, of Barangay Biasong, succumbed to six gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, said PO2 Leandro Azarcon, Talisay City Police desk officer.

The murder of Umambac raised suspicion that a group of motorcycle-riding men were responsible for a series of vigilante-style killings in Talisay City.

But Azarcon dismissed speculations that a vigilante was responsible for Umambac’s death, as the victim had no pending criminal records.

Azarcon, who quoted Umambac’s relative as saying, the murder could be more of a personal grudge than a vigilante-murder theory.

Investigation showed that Umambac was only sleeping in his trisikad, a pedal-powered contraption, parked by the roadside when shot at around 3:55 a.m.

Umambac reportedly fell asleep while waiting for passengers in Central Biasong.

Gunman

The motorcycle-riding gunman suddenly came, shot the victim six times and sped off towards southern Cebu, Azarcon said.

Residents, who were roused from their sleep, rushed Umambac to the Talisay City District Hospital in Barangay San Isidro. Unfortunately, he died before reaching the hospital.

Since last month, authorities noticed a series of killings in Talisay, which include the dumping of a young man’s body in a vacant lot in the hilly village of Maghaway. (GC)
