Friday, April 11, 2008 Valmoria to reconcile Ronda execs
SAYING he has a “special formula” to improve peace and order in Ronda town, Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Carmelo Valmoria yesterday met Ronda Vice Mayor Mariano Blanco and disclosed that a reconciliation between Blanco and Mayor Esteban Sia was an “essential part” of this.
Valmoria earlier met Sia Tuesday afternoon and invited Blanco to another meeting yesterday.
He declined to disclose what his plans for Ronda were, only assuring that this was to improve the peace and order.
“Let us just see the outcome of the formula. Our main objective is for the stability in Ronda,” he told reporters after his meeting with Blanco.
Blanco, for his part, said Sia was imagining things when he accused Blanco of sending armed persons in the mountain villages.
He said it was only during Sia’s term that things have happened in Ronda.
Shooting
Earlier, Sia alleged it was Blanco who was responsible for the surge of crime in Ronda, accusing him of harboring men who terrorize mountain folk by stealing their livestock.
Sia told reporters that the Blancos were also behind the shooting of his bodyguard last year and of the shooting of the witness.
He said it was because Blanco could not accept his defeat in the elections.
After Blanco’s term ended, his mother ran for mayor but lost to Sia. However, Blanco said this was not true.
“Hagbay ra namong nadawat. Unta undangon na na niya iyang mga pamasangil kay iya ra pud nang binuhatan (We have accepted our defeat long ago. We just hope he’ll stop all these allegations because it’s just him who created all these),” he said.
Blanco alleged that it was Sia who was creating trouble and that the police officers in the town felt demoralized because he was ordering them around instead of letting them do their jobs.
Blanco plans to consult a lawyer to find out what action to take with regard to Sia’s accusations.
Valmoria does not believe that the situation in the town is as tense as it is being portrayed.
“Dili man na ana kagubot diha.We will just address the series of shooting incidents,” he said.
One of these shooting incidents was last Wednesday, wherein a policeman’s son was shot but survived.
Gilbert Pariel, 18, was aboard a motorcycle and was on his way home to Barangay Cansalonoy when he was shot at 7:30 p.m. in Barangay Canabohong.
Police are yet to establish the motive as he was reportedly shot at in 2003 but the attacker missed his target.
Pariel is the son of SPO1 Gaudencio Pariel of the Tuburan Police Station. (MEA)
