Friday, April 11, 2008 Karatedo instructors form new Cebu group
AFTER a controversy hit their sport last year, the karatedo practitioners have regrouped to form a new organization in Central Visayas—the Central Visayas Union of Karatedo Organization Inc (CVUKOI).
The CVUKOI, which is now the legitimate aratedo umbrella group in Region 7, is composed of karatedo instructors who, not only want to unite and solidify its group, but also to spearhead necessary changes on questionable policies and practices that affected the sport.
The sport was hit by a scandal last year after a multi-awarded instructor was accused of molesting his students under the guise of training methods.
Newly-elected CVUKOI president Maximo M. Tacay Jr., is urging all karatedo organizations in Central Visayas to join the group to make a united body with one voice for the betterment of karatedo as a martial art and sport.
New officers
The new group is now registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission and has elected its new set of officers and members of the Board of Trustees.
CVUKOI is headed by Tacay, with Faustino Patalinghug as vice president for internal affairs. Victor Sanchez was elected as vice president for external affairs and Chairman of the Referee Council.
The other officers are Rolando Basirgo, Sr., (secretary), Raphy Cabije (treasurer), Collie Enriquez (auditor), Steve Blanco (assistant secretary-general and chairman on club and individual membership committee), Louibell Glavez (assistant treasurer and chair on Medical Tournament Committee), Orven Salatandre (Press Relations Officer), Efren Lauron (chairman on Ethics and Grievance Committee).
The members of the Board of Trustees are Ignacio Monino, Raul Claros, Alberto Fernandez, Bernardo Baguio, Dulcisimo Ignacio and Sercon Maiso.
