Town fiesta ends in hacking; 2 cousins hurt, suspect flees

A FIESTA celebration in a barangay in Pinamungajan, Cebu was marred by a hacking incident that injured two cousins at dawn yesterday.

Lloyd Durano, 21, and Arnel Pongtod, 28, of Baranngay Tutay, Pinamungajan were taken to the hospital after Basillo Manguilimotan, their cousin and neighbor, attacked them.

The barangay was celebrating its fiesta last Saturday by holding a dance. It was there that the hacking took place at dawn the next day.

PO2 Romeo Jaranilla told Sun.Star Superbalita that Manguilimotan was drunk at that time and was creating a scene at the dance. His attention was called by barangay tanods.

After the dance, at 1:00 a.m. yesterday, Durano and Pongtod were on their way home when Manguilimotan, armed with a bolo, waylaid them without apparent reason.

Manguilimotan hacked Durano first, wounding him in the chest. Pongtod tried to wrestle the bolo from Manguilimotan and was wounded in his hands. When he finally grabbed the bolo from Manguilimotan, the suspect fled. He couldn’t be found by responding policemen.

“He was angry after his attention was called at the dance,” said Jaranilla. (DRT of Superbalita)
