Man kills son, 6, himself

WORRIED that his six-year-old son would be taken away from him, a father ended his and his son’s life inside their house in Sitio Nawanao, Barangay Pit-os, Cebu City.

The bodies of Junard, 31, and Jomer were found by Clarita, Junard’s mother, in the kitchen yesterday morning.

The incident was believed to have occurred over the weekend since the bodies of father and son had started to decompose when they were discovered.

Jomer was cuddled by Junard when they were found by Clarita.

A cable wire was tied around Junard’s neck while a nylon cord was found around Jomer’s neck.

Investigation conducted by a team of Homicide Section investigators led by PO3 Roger Nedamo implied that Junard may have been driven to kill Jomer first and later turned on himself for fear that his son would be taken away from him.

Clarita, in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu at the Eternal Memories Funeral Services where the bodies were taken, said since last month Junard confided to her about his fears.

Junard has a live-in partner who has been in Japan for the past four years. Recently, Junard reportedly learned about the plan of his live-in partner’s parents to take Jomer under their custody.

Since then, Clarita said Junard has started to worry.

“Di man gyud siya mosugot nga kuhaon ang iyang anak (He would not allow anybody to take his son),” Clarita, who was weeping, said.

Junard reportedly decided to forgo plans to take a vacation in Bacolod for fear that his son would be taken while he was away.

Clarita, who is working in a store in the neighboring Barangay Bacayan, narrated that she went home past 11 p.m. last Saturday.

Junard and his son were living with Clarita in Pit-os.

Clarita said after several knocks on the door and Junard failed to open it, she decided to go back to Bacayan and slept in the house of her other child.

Clarita said she did not bother to wake Junard up last Saturday because the latter had told her not to wake him up because he had difficulty sleeping.

Before leaving, Clarita left a bag of food she brought for her son and grandson near the door.

During that time, Clarita said she did not have any inkling that something bad had happened to them.

Yesterday, she went back to the house supposedly to change her clothes before reporting for work.

She brought along a kilo of Lanzones for Jomer.

When she arrived, Clarita said she noticed the bulb outside their house was not lighted and that the food she left behind last Saturday was untouched.

This prompted Clarita to force open the door using a bolo.

At this instance, Clarita discovered the bodies of the two. (JST)
