CPPO drafts plan for site shootings in Liburon, Carcar

A “COMPREHENSIVE” plan for Liburon, Carcar City is jointly being undertaken by the police, local government, and barangay officials, Cebu Provincial Police (CPPO) Office Director Carmelo Valmoria said yesterday.

It was in response to a string of shooting incidents that already claimed the lives of several persons since last year.

Valmoria, who attended a meeting called by Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas last Monday, said the officials’ main concern was to create an outpost in the barangay’s interior portion.

Aside from Valmoria and Barcenas, Regional Mobile Group Director Jesus Gaquing, Carcar City Police Chief Teofilo Siclot, and Liburon’s barangay officials attended the meeting.

Statements

The latest in what is seen as a series of shootings in the barangay happened Thursday night, when four suspects gunned down three men.

Manuel Bacalan, 22, died on the spot while Roel Bargamento, 35, and Elmer Alcuizar, 49, died on the way to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

The statements of witnesses were subscribed yesterday so that the case against the suspects could be filed within the week.

Valmoria said he talked to the witnesses and is convinced their statements were accurate, as they were without inconsistencies.

He would not disclose the plan for Liburon, though, but assured that those who were informed about it were “satisfied”.

Valmoria only said that there will be “a series of activities” in connection with the plan.

Aside from the shootings, Liburon, home to some 7,000 inhabitants, has been identified as a drug-affected barangay.

Meanwhile, an illegal drug seminar by the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (Raidsotf) was held for police operatives in Carcar City.

Operatives from southern police stations attended the seminar led by Senior Supt. Drusillo Bolodo, deputy regional director for operations and Raidsotf supervisor.

A separate seminar will also be held for northern Cebu police stations’ operatives. (MEA)
