Gwen voted head of Neda body

CENTRAL Visayas will again lead the Visayas group in the National Economic Development Authority (Neda) Regional Development Committee (RDCom), which is a Cabinet-level body.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia was elected as Visayas Board Chairperson. Garcia is also the chairperson of the Central Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC).

She succeeded former Negros Oriental governor George Arnaiz, who chaired the Visayas Board in the last term.

There were no objections from representatives from Regions 6 and 8—Antique Gov. Salvacion Perez of Western Visayas and Calbayog City Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento of Eastern Visayas.

Garcia, Perez and Sarmiento met at the Cebu Marriot Hotel yesterday to elect the Visayas representative in the Neda Board.

It was officiated by Neda 7 Director Marlene Rodriguez.

Garcia will serve as the spokesperson for the Visayas.

“The Neda RDCom will tackle interregional issues and concerns,” Rodriguez explained.

Rodriguez believes that leadership reputation must have prompted the other Visayan regions to elect a chairperson from Central Visayas to head the Visayas Board.

“It must be because of the region and the leadership. Malaki din naman kasi ang Central Visayas,” said Rodiguez. (JGA)
