Talk back: Real message By Ian Manticajon
In 1986, I was a 10-year-old child of ant-Marcos parents, flashing the "Laban" sign to a Marcos convoy that campaigned in Cebu. In 2001, I was one of thousands who went to Fuente calling on Erap to resign.
Now, I choose not to actively be a part of a front of oligarchs, church leaders, the opposition, civil society groups and militants.
Not because I am tired of taking action or have lost all hope. We could not just pray and shout for an end to corruption and call on public officials to resign, yet fail to account for our own moral debts to the country.
It has been pointed out, yet we always fail to heed: The only way to effectively fight corruption is to start with ourselves, to first earn that moral standing to face this monster before we can put to shame those who live by it.
It's good that Jun Lozada came out. It's bad that we're not really getting the message.
