Sharks devour Cebu Dolphins raw, 10-3

THE MANILA Sharks plucked out some revenge after beating the defending champions Cebu Dolphins, 10-3, in the third Sunday of the 2008 BP Series 3 held at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Playing without its ace pitcher Joseph Orillana, the Dolphins allowed the Sharks to erect an early 4-0 lead after three innings before scoring its first run at the bottom of the fourth.

The Sharks, however, were unrelenting as they gobbled two more runs at the top of the seventh for a 6-3 lead at the end of the inning.

But as the Dolphins struggled to score a run, the Sharks were buying its own time before making four more runs in the final ninth inning for the blowout win.

Manila ace pitcher Charlie Labrador and his alternate Romeo Jasmin allowed only nine hits while scoring nine strikeouts.

Cebu’s pitchers Jeffrey Ardio, Sandy Cerillo and Nico Uichico gave up a combined 21 hits and 10 runs, seven earned runs, five walks and only had three strikeouts.

Manila now enjoys a 5-3 lead in their head-to-head collisions.

The Sharks now sit on top of the team standings with 3-0 win-loss slate, followed by the Antipolo Pilgrims with 2-0, the Dolphins with 2-1 record, Batangas Bulls with 1-1, Dumaguete Uni-Bikers with 1-2, while Series 1 champions Makati Sharks winless after two games and Forward Taguig Patriots winless in three starts at the bottom of the standings.

Dumaguete beat Taguig in a thrilling 13-12 game last Sunday for its first win while Antipolo routes Batangas, 7-1. (RCM)
