Thursday, April 17, 2008 1 dead, another injured in shooting at Carbon market
A Filipino-Indian man died, while another one was injured in a shooting incident along F. Gonzales St., Unit 3 Carbon Market in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City yesterday dawn.
Two men, who remained unidentified, on board a motorcycle were tagged as the attackers.
An identification card of a policeman, who has gone absent without official leave, was found inside the wallet of Parhad Cababahay Panahandeh, 26, who died on the spot for gunshot wounds on his left cheek and at the right portion of his head.
The other victim, who survived in the attack, was identified as Wilmar Sadora Blanco, 19. Both are residents of Sitio Bogo, Barangay Quiot, Cebu City.
Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Patrocinio Comendador, in a news conference, said the policeman is now under investigation on why his police ID card was inside Panahandeh’s wallet.
Investigation
Comendador said yesterday’s shooting was already the third incident to occur in the area during the past two months.
In all the three cases, the motives appeared to be drug-related, he said.
The attack was carried out past 1 a.m., shortly after Blanco boarded the motorcycle driven by Panahandeh.
Comendador said among the information they wanted to know is the purpose of the victims in coming to the area.
Initial investigation conducted by a team of Homicide Section investigators led by SPO2 Rey Cuyos, showed that the assailants, who were on board a blue motorcycle, waylaid the victims. One of them pumped bullets on Panahandeh and Blanco.
Assistance
Blanco, who sustained gunshot wounds in the lower chest and left arm, managed to run towards Carbon Police Station and sought assistance.
A team from Carbon Police Station and Mobile Patrol Group rushed to the area while Blanco was taken to Cebu City Medical Center.
Police, however, failed to arrest the assailants.
Personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operations (Soco) 7, recovered from Panahandeh’s possession a green belt bag containing one Colt .45 pistol with a magazine loaded with seven bullets placed inside a holster; a pair of handcuffs and an orange sweatshirt, a Nokia 2100, a black wallet with an ID card bearing the name of the policeman; a silver bracelet and a gold ring.
Also found in his pocket is P413 in cash, a tissue paper and a piece of tinfoil.
The Soco personnel also found three empty shells from caliber .45 at the crime scene and the motorcycle driven by Panahandeh. (JST)
