Mike, Tomas, dads woo votes from vice mayors in Vis-Min

IN the company of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Cebu City councilors and Sinulog dancers, Vice Mayor Michael Rama spent the last few days of his campaign wooing vice mayors from Visayas and Mindanao.

Rama said he wants a solid vote from the Vis-Min area, which he said will help him clinch the presidency of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VMLP).

Osmeña, Rama and some councilors joined the vice mayors from the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and other Muslim provinces yesterday for a meeting and socials in a hotel in Manila, where the league convention will be held.

The three-day 17th VMLP National Convention opens today at the Manila Hotel with some 1,800 vice mayors attending the event. The election will be held tomorrow.

“We want to fence and cement Visayas and Mindanao because we have to rely on their votes and also get as many votes as we can from Luzon. So far, the possible votes from Vis-Min is encouraging. If the last count stays, the results will definitely be on our favor,” Rama told Sun.Star Cebu.

Half of the votes would come from Luzon while the other half will come from Visayas and Mindanao, he explained.

Rama is running against Antipolo City Vice Mayor Danilo Leyble.

In a phone interview yesterday, the vice mayor admitted he took the ABS-CBN-Cebu Knapsack Dancers to perform the Sinulog when they welcome delegates from Cebu and the rest of the Visayas during the convention.

Aside from the election and socials, the vice mayors would also be attending sessions on information, communications and technology. (LCR)
