AFTER losing his last fight to World Boxing Council super featherweight champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao via a lopsided unanimous decision, Mexican great, Marco “The Baby-Faced Assasin” Antonio Barrera is looking for a third battle with his Filipino tormentor in his planned return to the ring.
In his comeback match, Barrera wants to tangle with fighters who have established a name in the boxing industry and Pacquiao is one of them.
“I don’t want to return just to return. If Golden Boy Promotions gives me some interesting options against marquee names, or a third fight with Pacquiao, then I’m all for it.
But if it’s just about taking on an opponent who’s there to lay down, then I won’t even think about coming back,” said Barrera in a report posted at www.411mania.com.
In their first outing at the Alamo dome, San Antonio Texas in Nov. 15, 2003, Pacquiao shocked the world when he turned out the lights of the legendary Mexican fighter, forcing Barrera’s corner to stop the fight in the 11th round.
That victory launched Pacquiao into the list of A fighters in the ring and paved the way for his trilogy with Erik Morales and two fights with Juan Manuel Marquez.
In their rematch last Oct. 6, 2007 the Filipino ring idol was still victorious against an aging Barrera with a 12th round unanimous decision in the Madalay Bay Resort and
Casino in Las Vegas.
Aside from Pacquiao, Barrera also said that a rematch with fellow Mexican and former WBC super featherweight titleholder Marquez will be a fight that he will be looking forward to.
“A fight with Pacquiao is certainly one that gets me worked up but we’ll have to see what his plans are and against Juan Manuel Marquez, that would be another good one, though it’s too bad that he lost against Manny which I felt was a draw and I was at ringside screaming my lungs out when he had him on the verge of a knockout.
Marquez could’ve knocked him out,” said the former WBO super bantamweight and WBC super featherweight champion.
Marquez dethroned Barrera of his WBC title in their battle last March 17, 2007.
Barrera boasts an outstanding record of 63 wins and 6 losses and was only stopped once in his 17-year illustrious career and that was by Pacquiao. (EKA)
