CIDG arrests ex-member of anti-communist group

A 66-year-old man, who used to be a member of anti-communist group Kadre, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 in a raid in the mountain barangay of Adlaon, Cebu City last Wednesday.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Fortunato de Gracia, the operatives led by Senior Insp. Richard Caballero raided the house of Mauricio Dionson, a farmer, in Sitio Agbagon, Adlaon, past 2 p.m.

High-powered

The team seized one caliber 30 Rifle and 55 pieces of live ammunition for the high-powered firearm as well as one piece of .38 revolver and 15 bullets for the same caliber.

The team also raided the house owned by Mauricio’s son, Judito. The operation yielded one US Carbine caliber 30, one .45 pistol and bullets for the carbine and pistol.

Judito, however, was not around during the operation.

Caballero, in a news conference, said they received a call regarding the firearms reportedly kept by the father and son.

Positive

The CIDG7 found the information positive.

Mauricio, in an interview with reporters, said he and his son bought the firearms way back in the 80’s during the height of the insurgency problem in their barangay.

He said the firearms were only meant for their protection and not for illegal activities.

No records

He said he has no criminal records or has figured in any trouble in his barangay.

Adlaon Barangay Captain Nieves Nara, who visited Mauricio at CIDG 7 Headquarters, yesterday also vouched for Mauricio and his family.

Nara said Mauricio and his family have been good residents in the barangay.

They have no barangay records or were invited to the barangay for misdemeanor. (JST)
