Teeners gang up on man they mistook as snatcher
A 30-year-old construction worker, who was mistaken to be a snatcher, was mauled, stabbed and shot by a group of youngsters at the corner of Colon and Pelaez Sts. in Barangay Kalubihan, Cebu City yesterday dawn.
Joselito B. Laurente landed at the Cebu City Medical Center for a stab wound in the right arm and a gunshot wound in the abdomen. The slug exited through his back.
He also suffered bruises.
PO3 Buenaventura Ursaiz, one of the responding homicide investigators said Laurente survived from the attack.
According to the investigation conducted by a team of Homicide Section investigators led by SPO1 Roger Nedamo, Laurente and his friend Bobby, who went drinking in Carbon Market, were walking in the area past 4 a.m. when a group of youngsters waylaid them.
Friend
One of the youngsters shouted “snatcher”, prompting Laurente and his friend to run.
The group, however, caught up with Laurente. One of them boxed him in the head while another one stabbed him in the arm, sending the victim to the ground.
At this instance, one of the attackers, who was armed with a gun, shot Laurente.
The group then fled.
A trisikad driver brought Laurente to the city hospital.
For failure to respond to the incident, two rookie police personnel, who were on their field training program (FTP) at the CCPO, were told to explain.
