Friday, April 18, 2008 ECCP holds football fiesta in CIS
TO promote camaraderie and bring football closer to the hearts of the Filipinos, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) will be hosting the ECCP Soccer Cup, a one day football festival, this Sunday at the Cebu International School field.
In this fun-filled day of football fanaticism, seven teams comprised of members and invited non-members of the association are set to compete with each other.
The Detalia Aurora Warriors, Detalia Aurora Kings, Tsuneishi, People Support, Fairchild, NCR and Lear will battle in a seven- a-side, 20-minute games.
The top four teams in the elimination round will be clashing with each other in the semifinal round.
The two winners will face off in the championship match, while the losers will skirmish for third place.
If by any chance a team will sweep all of their opposing teams, they will automatically be crowned as the champions of the contest, while the second and third ranked teams will be fighting for the second and third place.
The festival offers a unique twist not found in all other tournaments in Cebu as they will allow participants to field a mixed team since they allow female and male players to play with each other.
Each team will also have a maximum of 10 players in their lineup and a minimum of eight and each player must also be at least 12 years old.
The opening ceremony will start at 8 a.m. and the games will kickoff afterwards.
Niel Montesclaros, the tournament director, said in a press conference yesterday at the ECCP office that Cebu Football Association president Richard Montayre and Members of the Board will oversee this one-day football festival. (EKA)
