Friday, April 18, 2008 Milo Best Clinic gets new head in Cebu
AFTER 18 years, the Milo Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training (Best) changes hands and it will now be under the wing of sportsman Rico Navarro.
Starting off his duties as the new administrator of Milo Best Center Cebu, Navarro is now busy preparing for the annual clinic at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit
This was formally launched yesterday at the Siknoy Restaurant in a press conference with coaches and Milo representative Bles Villareal.
The change of management stemmed from an undetermined cause and Navarro, though having second thoughts, being the sports lover that he is, gladly accepted the responsibility.
Filling in
Milo Best has been under long-time franchise holders Mar and Boots Cabahug, who are known to be hands on with the Milo Best even involving their kids in the promotion.
"Maikug ko (to the Cabahugs). I'm in a tough position. It is not my goal to take away Milo Best. I'm just filling in for now," Navarro said.
Navarro has been involved in various sporting endeavors in Cebu and is particularly interested in grassroots development in basketball. He was one of the deputy commissioners of Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. and he jumpstarted an age-group competition for young basketball players. The annual summer clinic will be held at the SHSJ Gym along Mango Avenue.
Navarro said the clinic will be held daily from May 5 to 10 (Monday-Saturday). Clinic time periods will be either from 8 a.m. to 12 noon or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., depending on which level one is enrolled.
"At the Best Center, players learn the fundamentals of the sport and develop character and values such as discipline, sportsmanship, and camaraderie through their interaction with coaches, instructors and peers," Navarro said. (MCB)
