Friday, April 18, 2008 Springdale gears up for Palaro
AFTER their successful campaigns in the Cebu City Olympics and the Central Visayas Region Athletic Association, Paref-Springdale will vie for gold in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa on April 20 in Palawan.
The Central Visayas football team, primarily composed of players from Paref-Springdale, arrived for the tournament last April 13.
Since then, they have been holding twice-a-day practices to prepare for the grueling task ahead.
They do endurance training in the morning to enhance their physical conditioning by running laps and hold skills training in the afternoon to improve the technical and tactical aspect of their game.
With their daily training, Mario Ceniza, the head coach of Central Visayas, is confident that his squad is ready for the Palarong Pambansa Tournament and compete with the top athletes of the Philippines.
"The boys are 95 percent ready and will be a 100 percent prepared when the tournament starts," Ceniza told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview.
Recently, the team lacked five players from the original roster because those players had other commitments but the team was quickly reinforced by three players from Cebu Province and two from Bohol.
Ceniza said that the new additions are doing quite well in blending in with squad.
Ceniza hand-picked these players after the Cviraa tournament because he thought these players were what the team needs to boost its strength.
The opening ceremony for the Palarong will be on April 20 and the games will start on the April 21. (EKA)
