Neri: Parties and people
By Nelia G. Neri

First-time parents Joseph and Angela (Dizon) Ewart and brand-new grandparents Paquito and Joyce (Garcia) Dizon were making proud noises as they welcomed guests during the dinner affair celebrating the baptism of baby James Francis Joseph at the well-appointed Dizon home in Corinthian Gardens. Nothing was spared to make the dinner truly special for the new prince in the family who is not only cute and handsome but very well behaved as well.

A hello and goodbye party at the Marriott Hotel marked the changing of the guard at Silkair. Introduced during the cocktail affair was the incoming manager of SilkAir Philippines, Ajish Henry Morris who was marking his birthday that day. It was also the chance of outgoing manager Kum Hoong Kong to bid goodbye to his many friends here before he left for Shenzen, China.

When she notched the century mark, Señora Vicenta “Nene” Casquejo Recio was honored with a birthday dinner at Casino Español by her grateful children — our dear friend Joe, Jorge, Eleonora Cabrera, Gloria Aquino and Carmelita Tobias. Conspicuously absent was Califonia-based son Victor who couldn’t come but thoughtfully sent in his loving wishes through a letter. The Recio siblings are all appreciative of the fact that their mother had always been devoted and dedicated to her family.

It was celebration time for the Ricardo family when California-based Nichie Ricardo Giancanelli came home for a visit after so many years of absence. The timing was perfect because it was also the graduation from high school of Ina Ricardo, daughter of Nichie’s brother Jake. Party venue was the windy Mountainview Resort up Busay Hills.

On her 85th birthday, Fortunata “Titang” Mendoza, former assistant dean of the Velez College of Nursing, was at the center of an intimate family celebration, made more memorable with the presence of her only daughter Ping Remendaban who came all the way from Roanke, Virgina, USA. Her grandaughter (Ping’s daughter) Raissa flew all the way from Geneva, Switzerland, where she works as consultant of the United Nations Aids program on Global Coalition on Women and Aids.

A trio of economists were in town: Dr. Emilio T. Antonio, Dr. Victor Abola and Dr. Ramon Quesada, for the Economic Briefing organized by the Bank of Commerce at the Marriott Hotel. They were the guests speakers during the well-attended luncheon affair.

Another recent visitor was Warner Manning, regional head of HSBC Private Bank’s Family Weath Advisory based in HongKong who used to be HSBC president/CEO in the country. He held court at an intimate dinner at Aziza and talked about the services of his office which include family governance, succession planning, international tax advice and corporate finance services.
