Cebu City cop accused of mauling man in fiesta

A POLICEMAN was accused of beating up a man at the height of the festivities in the southern town of Santander last Friday.

PO1 Enrico Boreros, who is assigned at the Waterfront Police Station of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), was reportedly drunk when he began kicking Bernard Rodrigo Maupo, 22, in front of the Santander Municipal Hall at midnight Thursday.

He also reportedly drew his firearm and aimed it at Maupo’s forehead.

Boreros was with the group of Maupo and four others and were drinking across the town hall when he allegedly attacked Maupo “without provocation.”

Displeased

The official report submitted to the Cebu Provincial Police Office stated that Boreros held Maupo’s head and then began kicking him in different parts of his body.

After that, Boreros allegedly grabbed his gun and then pointed it at Maupo. Boreros allegedly fled immediately after the incident.

CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador was informed of the incident last Friday by Santander Police Chief Richard Oliver.

Oliver told Comendador that Santader Mayor Wilson Wenceslao was displeased with the incident.

Comendador told reporters that he asked Oliver to submit a report on the incident to the CPPO or to his office so that proper action could be taken against Boreros. He also hopes to get an official statement from the complainant.

He also asked Waterfront Police Chief Pedrillo Villamor to confront Boreros on the matter. Both Villamor and Boreros were unavailable when Sun.Star Cebu contacted the station.

Maupo reported the incident only last Saturday, reportedly so he could file an administrative complaint. The town was preparing for the Tostado Festival, one of the highlights of the town’s fiesta celebration, when the incident happened. (MEA)
