Wednesday, April 23, 2008 CIDG seeks clearance to move used clothing
THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 will ask the court to allow the transfer of 80 bales of used clothing it seized last week to a bonded warehouse.
The confiscated items are temporarily kept inside the CIDG 7 headquarters in Camp Sotero Cabahug along Gorordo Ave., Cebu City.
CIDG 7 Special Operations Team Chief Rex Derilo said the bales are blocking the exit passage.
He denied earlier reports that the used clothing were discreetly released and returned to its owner Sunday night.
Inventory
Derilo said all 80 bales are intact based on the inventory he conducted last Monday morning.
The used clothing was seized by CIDG 7 operatives Thursday last week from a Talisay City warehouse, which was rented by one Myrna Solomon.
The CIDG applied for a search warrant after learning that the used clothing was being sold.
Selling ukay-ukay, or used clothing, is a violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 4653, an act against the commercial importation of textile articles.
A team led by Senior Insp. Patrick Freddie Vaño served the warrant issued by Branch 9 Judge Geraldine Faith Econg of the Regional Trial Court 7.
Complaints
Solomon was not present during the raid, but San Roque, Talisay city barangay tanods signed the inventory receipts for the seized items.
Derilo said a complaint for violation of RA 4653 was filed against Solomon last Monday. (JST)
