Lapu includes coastal cleanup in celebration

AS part of the annual Kadaugan sa Mactan celebration, the Lapu-lapu City Government conducted a coastal cleanup yesterday.

Volunteers picked up trash near the Mactan Shrine, in Olango island, and in Barangay Looc during the activity, which was also held as part of the Earth Day celebration the day before.

Among those who joined the cleanup, which began at 6 a.m. and ended four hours later, were 70 Philippine Air Force and 30 Philippine Navy personnel.

Among them were Lts. Alex Garso, Roy Valdez, Juvy Gasatan, Ruby Dematata, and Beneliza Salazar.

“It is one way that we can contribute to the environment” said Garso, of the Philippine Navy.

Air Force and Navy personnel will also participate in a blood letting tomorrow, and the Battle of Mactan reenactment this Sunday.

Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will play the role of Lapu-lapu, while actor Dennis Trillo will portray Ferdinand Magellan during the reenactment. Tawny Gwynne M. Estolloso, STC Mass Comm Intern
