300 applicants join job fair

OVER 300 new graduates, unemployed and under-employed persons attended the job fair organized by the Municipal Government of Dalaguete recently.

Some 60 applicants were hired on the spot.

Others are still waiting for their final interview with the 12 Cebu-based firms and six manpower placement companies which offered overseas jobs.

There were 600 jobs offered during the fair, which was a brainchild of Mayor Andrade Alcantara.

Like the others from the rest of the province, many from Dalaguete apply for jobs in Cebu City.

However, most of them only end up spending so much but they do not get a chance of being interviewed.

Alcantara thought that with the local job fair, the applicants will finally get their chance to meet their prospective employers face-to-face and increase their chances of getting employed if they really qualified for the positions.

It was the town’s second job fair in less than six months. The first one was held last December.

The local firms that responded to the request of the mayor to join the job fair were Aboitiz Construction Group (Methaphil Division), Brutus Foods, Cebu General Services, Cebu Progress Commercial, Dedon Manufacturing, Gaisano Carcar, Pacific Global Outsource Solutions, P.J. Lhuillier Group, Prime Asia Pawnshop, Prince Warehouse and Rustan Supermarket Fresh.

The overseas placement firms that came included Gran Placement and General Services, MMML Recruitment Services Inc, Mother’s Way Overseas manpower Corp.0, Unity Worldwide Resources Inc., Yangwha Human Resources Corp. and YHMD International Manpower Services.

The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole 7) supported the program, which aimed to give more job opportunities for the people living in the towns.

Dole 7 Assistant Director Exequiel Sarcauga came to open the job fair with Alcantara and Dalaguete Public Employment Officer Mannases Legaspi.
