Serna: Unusual twists in Kuya’s house
By Roger Serna: Sounds and images

IT turned out that it was not only Italian Valentino Alex who, at age 18, had his “manhood” intact when he entered the Bahay ni Kuya as one of the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus housemates.

Spanish Stallion Kevin also shares the same predicament. But unlike Alex who underwent circumcision while inside the house, Kevin does not want to alter the state of his manhood, not for any other reason than because he wants it that way as men in his country do.

While perhaps many appreciated Alex’s guts for undergoing the operation while monitored by televiewers, it is also possible that many — especially men whose culture allow them to stay “as is” all their lives — admired Kevin for his steadfastness and determination.

Unusual twists, such as this one plus the conflicts that arise, not only among the housemates but also among their guardians, make the current reality show more interesting than the previous outings. These twists lead the housemates in making instant announcements of voluntary exit (though prevailed upon later).

Finally, the long wait is over. Today, countless followers of Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis will have their fill of watching the two stars in the flesh as both visit Cebu for the promo tour of their film When Love Begins.

Made under the joint venture of Star Cinema and Viva Films, When Love Begins also boasts of its stellar supporting cast composed of Christopher de Leon, Boots Anson Roa, Ronaldo Valdez, Desiree del Valle, Dimples Romana, Mandy Ochoa, Rafael Rosell, AJ Dee, Jon Avila and Jennifer Lee.

Filmed entirety in the idyllic island of Boracay, When Love Begins revolves around two characters who are not comfortable when it comes to commitment. What happens to the two at the end of the movie is what we’re going to find out once the movie opens in movie houses nationwide on Wednesday, April 30.

It’s interesting to note that the Philippines’ very own traditional hilot (the country’s answer to the Thai and other types of massage) is fast becoming popular not only among tourists but also among Filipinos who have discovered that they also have something globally competitive and have learned to like its therapeutic qualities.

Alibyo Boutique Spa, located in I2 building at the IT Park, prides itself of pioneering the Filipino counterpart of foreign massage techniques in this part of the country. With different packages that include massage and other services complete with rites and rituals that make use of herbs and leaves, there is no wonder that writer and socialite Monina Blanco candidly describes every session as “better than sex.”

Why so? Because she says she feels relaxed and can easily drift off to dreamland right after. Naughty, huh! But that’s what she experiences. Can we dispute that?

Speaking of tourism, the local government unit of San Jacinto in Masbate takes an ambitious step in attracting tourists to visit their place by staging the search for the Mr. and Ms. Ticao Island Tourism 2008.

Fifteen pairs from all over the country will vie for the title and other prizes on Monday, April 28, in a pageant which will be aired in Buhay Pinoy over ABC 5.

Psalmstre Enterprises, the maker of New Placenta and Olive-C beauty products, is supporting the pageant. Eight hopefuls from Cebu composed of Kayle Companion, Jody Michelle Yu, Therese Jumanoy, Donnamil Tomaquin, Jan Michael Contreras, Edgar Rey Jugadora, McBilly Sy and Siegfred Schmidt are joining and will be transported to Masbate via Trans Asia Shipping Lines.

Good luck, folks! ***

One of the highlights of the MagTV Na! mall show at the Ayala Center Cebu parking area last weekend (signaling the start of the show’s third season) was the guest appearance of Judy Ann Santos, Gina Pareno, Ces Quesada and director Dante Garcia who were in town to promote Juday’s latest films Ploning which was shot in Cuyo,
Palawan.

Juday was warmly welcomed by the Cebuanos. What touched the young actress more was her fans’ being the first to greet her on her 30th birthday, which coincides with the opening of her film on April 30, that is.

Aside from greeting Juday a happy birthday, those present also wished her good luck with her new movie, which she also co-produced. That includes us.
