Friday, April 25, 2008 Talk back: Jan-Jan’s case By Michael O. Lecias USA
(THE letter is addressed to Bobby Nalzaro)
I have decided to write this reaction because shenanigans seems to be prevalent at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
When my sister had a surgery a few years ago at the same hospital, she experienced maltreatment from a few doctors in the form of unprofessional behavior, which was evident in their speech and actions.
One thing I could not accept was that they yelled at my sister and even delayed the giving of medical attention to her, who was under excruciating pain.
We filed a complaint with the director of the hospital but to no avail. The director said he would inform the parties later, but we did not hear again from them.
The doctor-patient relationship is such a solemn pact it must not be broken and violated by embarrassing patients and bringing them to public shame.
The “Jan-Jan Episode” is the talk of the town in the United States. What a shame that the wrongdoing of a few could shame others who are decent and ethical.
I hope this episode will not confirm in some ways the dialogue in the “Desperate Housewives” show aired on an American television station a few months ago.
