Sunday, April 27, 2008 Arum: Pacquiao can't KO Diaz
MOST fans may think Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will be in for an easy fight in his debut as a lightweight against World Boxing Council titleholder David Diaz, but Top Rank President Bob Arum sees it otherwise.
Arum, who promotes both fighters, thinks that Pacquiao’s first fight as a lightweight will not be an effortless one because he thinks that Pacquiao can never score a knockout against Diaz.
“It’s impossible to KO Diaz. He is one of those over-achieving fighters,” said Arum in a report posted at www.boxingscene.com.
Arum believes that even if Diaz isn’t a knockout puncher he throws lots of punches and has a tough chin.
“He is the type of fighter who wears you down,” said Arum.
Diaz has fought the likes of the legendary Erik “El Terrible” Morales and was victorious against him in a 12-round unanimous decision, forcing the Mexican, who also fought Pacquiao thrice, into retirement. (EKA)
