2 policemen fail to take fitness test, meted suspension

TWO rookie policemen who failed to take the PNP’s physical fitness test will have more than a month to think about it after they were ordered suspended for less grave neglect of duty.

A new policewoman, on the other hand, will similarly go through an administrative proceeding after she released the wrong detainee last February 26.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has designated Insp. Joseph Cañete as the summary hearing officer on the administrative case against PO1 Eva Caminade.

Training

She was detailed at the Fuente Police Station for her field training program when she inadvertently released drug suspect Edward Cabrera Talingting.

Like PO1s Ariel J. Cuarto and Meljun P. Lastimoso, she was also charged with less grave neglect of duty.

Senior Supt. Vicente Loot, Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division (RPHRDD) chief, signed the special order dated April 17.

Loot also issued the order suspending Cuarto for 31 days, from May 1 to 31; and Lastimoso for 41 days, from May 1 to June 10.

Once they have served their suspensions, the two policemen will be automatically restored to full duty status, the order stated.

Drunkeness

On Caminade’s case, Talingting allegedly claimed he was the person arrested for drunkenness, a mere violation of City Ordinance 512.

Talingting was temporarily detained at the Fuente Police Station after he was arrested by the Regional Anti-illegal Drugs Task Force for allegedly selling shabu, a non-bailable offense.

He, however, surrendered to P03 Ahmed Luzano two days later.

The Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, which Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador told to conduct the preliminary investigation, recommended Caminade’s case elevated to the regional office for formal investigation. (JST)
