5 boys break into market, arrested

FIVE boys were arrested Saturday after allegedly breaking into two stalls at the Tuburan Public Market at dawn.

Market guards Rogelio Yanson, Alejandro Pinca and Jossie Dollanes first reported to the Tuburan Police Station that a burglary was ongoing in one of the stalls.

Responding police officers led by SPO1 Abel delos Santos proceeded to the stalls of Leticia Regner Esmero and Cleofe Rosales Suanga.

But upon arrival of the police officers, a group of youngsters were seen fleeing.

SPO1 Carlo Canseko fired a warning shot to stop them but they continued running.

Police failed to see where they went as there was a power outage at the time and all the lights were out.

However at past 4 p.m., they arrested five minors, aged between 15 and 17.

The five were taken to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) after they admitted they were the ones who broke into the stalls.

They added that they left a sack of stolen items behind because they noticed that the police had arrived.

The five first destroyed the wooden front door of the store belonging to Esmero and then later destroyed the plywood partition leading to Suanga’s store.

They managed to gather 57 SIM packs worth P2,450, five original cellular phone chargers, an amplifier, a DVD player and 20 cellular phones that were brought to the stores for repair.

A gray bag that contained the 20 cellular phones worth at least P50,000 was found not far from the stores.

However, the other items that they had placed in a sack were still missing.

After taking photographs of the recovered items, these were later returned to Suanga.

SPO1 Canseko told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that a woman identified as Inday Daguro recovered the sack that the boys left at a building nearby.

Daguro had sold its contents to somebody she did not know.

Canseko claimed Daguro was mentally unstable and claimed that she sold the items for just P1.

Asked who she sold it to, Daguro said she did not know him, only that the man looked like Canseko.

The woman also returned sachets of shampoo and a chocolate drink and some bars of bath soap that had been taken from Esmero’s store.

Canseko admitted that it would be difficult to find the stolen items with the description Daguro gave them, but said they began announcing the loss of the items in sports events in the town.

He added that Suanga was willing to drop the charges against the boys if they pay for the lost items.

The five are now under the custody of the DSWD. (MEA)
