Truck rams bike, kills 2 in flyover
AN attempt by a driver of an Isuzu truck to avoid a pothole in the flyover in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City ended in a fatal accident that killed two people on a motorcycle at 3 a.m. yesterday.
Rex Restauro, who was driving the truck, instead collided head-on with the motorcycle which victims Brandon Ycot, 30, of San Remigio town, and Arwin Merca-der, 17, were riding on.
Ycot and Mercader came from the city and were headed for northern Cebu.
Restauro, on the other hand, was transporting live poultry to Carbon Public Market in Cebu City. He swerved to the opposite lane to avoid the pothole but collided instead with the motorcycle of Ycot and Mercader.
Thrown off
Ycot, who drove the motorcycle, was killed on the spot after Restauro’s truck ran over him. Mercader, on the other hand, hit his head on the concrete barrier before he was thrown off the flyover.
Mercader was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but expired past 1 p.m.
Traffic investigator SPO1 Timoteo Quirol said a criminal complaint for reckless driving resulting in homicide will be filed against Restauro, who is currently detained at the police station 1 in Barangay Centro. (AIV)
