Charges filed vs. rob gang members

A ROBBERY complaint was filed yesterday afternoon against two men identified by police as the ones who took P400,000 from a money-changing shop inside a mall last Friday night.

A P100,000 cash reward was also offered by Cherubim Security Agency for any information that would lead to the suspects’ arrest, said Senior Insp. Michael Anthony Bastes, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) theft and robbery section chief.

He said they filed a criminal complaint against Roy Fernandez, the alleged leader of the group, and Albert Almedilla, alias Way Sala. Two others were also included in the complaint.

Remnant

Supt. Pablo Labra II, CCPO deputy director for operations, told reporters yesterday that Fernandez’s group is a remnant of the Casimiro “Meloy” Garcia robbery group, which was neutralized in the middle of last year.

Fernandez was reportedly a former member of the Mindanao-based Kuratong Baleleng.

In a staff conference yesterday, Labra directed Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau Chief George Ylanan to re-focus efforts on intelligence monitoring of robbery groups.

Bastes said Fernandez and Almedilla were tagged by X-change Money Changer employees Glicera T. Sabuare, 34, and Elgin R. Natad, 29, and security guard Felipe Mendez of Cherubim as the robbers.

The group held Sabuare and Natad at gunpoint while declaring a holdup last Friday night.

They also disarmed Mendez of his issued service .38 revolver during the incident. (JST)
