Queen City Footrace starts on May 25

CEBU’s streets will go steamy-hot as runners from all over Central Visayas test their speed and stamina in the “Cebu Queen City Footrace” on May 25.

The race will begin in front of the Magellan’s Cross at exactly 5 a.m.

Presented by the Marathon Organizers of Central Visayas, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism and Philippine Sports Commission, the 10-kilometer race will pass through the tourist landmarks in the city and culminate at the Cebu City Hall.

Race Director Joe Deresas yesterday said he made this event not only to promote the city’s tourism industry, but also to recognize Cebu City as one of those big cities around the world that organizes big marathons, such as Tokyo, Boston, Hong Kong, New York marathons and others.

Organizers expect that thousands of athletes from different sectors will join.

Deresas said this is the first time that a marathon here will be having 18 categories, which includes members of the tri-media.

Winners for the Open category will receive P5,000, P3,000 and P1,000 for the first, second and third placers, respectively.

The fourth placer goes with P700 and P500 for the fifth place and those who will make it to the top ten will receive P300
each.

Registration is now going on from 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. until midnight of May 22 at the Philippine Sports Commission-RO7, at the Cebu City Sports Center, Rudy Project and at SM City Cebu.

Registration is pegged at P175, inclusive of singlet, certificate, gift items, headband and armband. (NSM)
