2 platoons of policemen to handle crowd dispersal in today’s rallies

TWO platoons of crowd dispersal management have been designated by the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to handle the rallyists in today’s celebration of the Labor Day.

CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador, however, is confident that today’s celebration will be peaceful, similar to the previous mass actions initiated by cause-oriented groups and militant organizations.

The police have also observed that in Cebu City there are only few participants of rallies lately.

Confederation

Traffic enforcers will also be deployed along the Fuente Osmena Rotunda, at the downtown area near the Metro Gaisano and near the Malacañang sa Sugbo where most of the rallies converge.

A confederation of labor groups with over 1,000 members will hold a protest today to call for economic relief for workers amid the crises the country is facing.

In celebration of the International Commemoration of Labor Day, the Solidarity of Cebu Workers, which is an alliance of 25 unions, labor federations and worker’s associations of Cebu Province, will call for a legislated wage increase and to an end to contractualization.

The demonstration is also aimed to counter the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council’s (TIPC) launching of May as the Industrial Peace Month. (JST)
