4 gov't agencies get eviction notices

TO formalize ongoing negotiations with the lot occupants, the Cebu Provincial Government sent eviction notices to government agencies occupying Capitol-owned properties.

Provincial Attorney Marino Martinquilla said the notice to vacate the properties was just a formality since the Capitol already reached an agreement about their transfer with the agencies concerned.

Notices were sent to the Center for the Ultimate Rehabilitation of Drug Dependents (Curedd), the Commission on Population (PopCom) 7, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) 7 and the National Food Authority (NFA) 7.

Transfer

The Provincial Government has been negotiating with the national offices of the said agencies to hasten the transfer of their office buildings.

Martinquilla said the regional offices will be transferred to the planned government center in Sudlon in Barangay Lahug, an area intended for the offices of regional government agencies.

They will join other agencies like the Department of Budget and Management, the National Economic and Development Authority, the Department of Tourism and the Department of Education, which have been holding office in Sudlon for some time already.

Construction

As part of the agreement, Capitol will shoulder the cost of the construction of the office building and the agencies will be allowed to occupy the lots for free for a certain period.

Curedd officials, however, asked to be given more time for them to transfer because they are still in the middle of their rehabilitation program.

Martinquilla said that Capitol does not have a problem with the request since the notice to vacate was just for formality purposes.

"The notices to vacate were issued just to keep the negotiations moving," he said. (JGA)
