Bucao edges incumbent bry. captain by 68 votes

THE wife of a city councilor got a lead of 68 votes over the proclaimed chief of San Isidro, Talisay City in last year’s barangay polls.

This was the result of the filed electoral protest of Marietta Bucao, wife of Councilor Alan Bucao, in a promulgation Friday at the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) in Talisay.

Bucao and Ma. Adelaida Restauro, wife of City Councilor Serrie Restauro, clashed for San Isidro’s top post in the Oct. 29 barangay elections.

Poll results showed that Restauro got 1,404 votes over Bucao’s 1,390, or a slim margin of only 14 votes.

But Bucao questioned the poll results and Restauro’s proclamation, citing irregularities in the election and counting of votes.

Bucao claimed she was a victim of vote padding and shaving (dagdag-bawas) because some of the ballots were allegedly misread in Restauro’s favor.
Of the 37 precincts in Barangay San Isidro, Bucao protested the results in 26 precincts.

The MTCC proceeded with the promulgation last Friday after it denied a motion of Restauro’s counsel to defer it for the second time.

Restauro refused to comment on the decision.

She said, though, that she will continue to sit as barangay captain, pending results of her appeal.

“It’s not final and executory yet,” she said.

Bucao is set to file a motion tomorrow declaring her as the duly elected barangay captain. (GC)
