Swiss national dies in vehicular accident

A SWISS national died after the car he was driving on his way home collided with another vehicle and flipped over in San Remigio, Cebu yesterday.

The victim was identified as Ernst Besmer, 63, married. He was driving a Mitsubishi Pajero with plate number YDN-835.

Initial investigation by the Bogo Police Station said Besmer was driving along the National Highway in Don Pedro, Bogo City when it hit an incoming vehicle, also a Pajero.

The second Pajero was also driven by a foreigner, American national Donald Steffensen, 68, married, from Carajay, Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police found that one front wheel of Besmer’s vehicle had exploded. Besmer lost control of the wheel and hit Steffensen’s Pajero.

Besmer’s vehicle flipped and landed on its side beside a barangay tanod outpost at the roadside.

Besmer died while Steffenson and his passengers were unhurt.

Steffensen surrendered to the Bogo Police Station. (FVQ)
