Springdale faces ANS in 15-Under finals

THE heavy rains wreaked havoc in the 8th Cebu Interclub Football Cup, canceling one final and adding more twists and turns in the semfinal round of the Men’s Open and the 15-Under divisions.

The heavy rains flooded the Springdale football field—venue of the 12-Under finals—rendering it unplayable and forcing the organizers to move the championship match between MLSDF Canduman and Springdale for today at the University of San Carlos Technological Center football grounds.

At the San Roque field, teams in the 15-under semifinals had a hard time playing because of the muddy conditions but that didn’t stop Abellana to score a handful of goals in an 8-0 lopsided victory against FC Inter Cebu.

Abellana aggresively attacked the FC Inter Cebu and got their first goal four minutes into the game behind Anthony Folkhanes’ brilliance before Rene Sanchez added another for the early 2-0 lead.

Abellana will face Springdale in the finals after the Mario Ceniza mentored squad outlasted Glenn Ramos’ Don Bosco Technology Center, 1-0.

In the Men’s Open, favorites Pinoysoccer.com and FC Inter Cebu set up an exciting finals after winning their separate semifinals yesterday.

Pinoysoccer.com, which lost to FC Intercebu, 2-3, in their final group match, defeated a gritty Queen City United, 3-2, in extension after an Oliver Colina goal.

Traction at the muddy USC field was almost impossible and the players soon saw more mud than the tires of a tractor truck in the first few minutes of the game.

Niño Zapanta connected with Lemar Baunsit in the 27th for the first goal before Robert Nicart took advantage of the muddy penalty area in the 35th for a 2-0 lead.

The Queen City keeper was about to collect a weak shot before the ball stopped in front of the goal, leading to an easy tap-in for Nicart.

In the second game, a late goal lifted FC Intercebu to a 1-0 win over College United.

Meanwhile, in the Ladies Open, Queen City United will face Iligan Alipores, while Queen City A will face San Roque Royal United for the 38-Above crown. (EKA with ML)
