KENNEX Abadia got the first qualifying spot to the main draw in the First Cebuana Lhuillier Men’s Open at the Baseline Restaurant courts yesterday.
Abadia, of Naga City, Cebu, qualified to the main draw after defeating Danreb Donio, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round after having a bye in the opening
Tournament official Godfrey Callao said of the 48 hopefuls, only eight players will get spots to the main draw this week.
The eight players will have a chance of defeating the top 16 tennis players in the country, led by Johnny Arcilla and PJ Tiero, when the tournament proper fires off on Tuesday.
On the other hand, still battling it out for spots to the main draw at press time were Jessie Lapore against Roy Tabotabo; Michael Quiñones against Menandro Econg; Ryan Repunte against Ivan Lui; Francis Largo against Vicente Caminos; James Dumoran opposite Jic-Jic Bohol; Oswaldo Dumoran against Redentor Econg; and Dodong Paypa against Christian Tiongko.
