Roderos seeks fines for MCBMB absentees

POLICE Regional Office 7 Director Ronald Roderos was all business in a meeting yesterday with members of the Mactan-Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB).

By business, meaning, he was all about income-generation for the board.

Roderos’ first suggestion was on how to address absences of members. During the meeting, Roderos suggested the implementation of the agreed fine for absent members.

Sun.Star Cebu asked Roderos if there were members who were consistently absent and he said yes. He did not say who they were, though.

Representatives

Listed as absent during the last regular board meeting on April 1 were Mayors Tomas Osmeña of Cebu City, Jonas Cortes of Mandaue City, Arturo Radaza of Lapu-Lapu City and Adelino Sitoy of Cordova, Department of Tourism 7 Director Patria Aurora Roa, Department of Public Works and Highways Director Josefino Rigor and Commodore Edmund Tan of Philippine Coast Guard.

Most of them were also absent yesterday, albeit they sent representatives.

Osmeña has been represented by Engineer Pericles Dakay, also vice chairperson of the MCBMB, in the past two meetings. Atty. Eliseo Ceniza Jr. represented Cortes in the April 1 meeting.

Yesterday, Radaza was represented by Councilor Florido Pozon.

The MCBMB secretariat said absent officials almost always send representatives.

But those without representatives have not paid fines since the MCBMB agreement has not been implemented.

Roderos insisted that the fine of P250 be revived.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, MCBMB chairperson, agreed, saying that all members of MCBMB are busy with their respective government functions but most still find time to
attend the regular MCBMB meeting.

It was not the only money-making scheme that Roderos pointed out.

He also asked if the MCBMB gets a cut of the penalty imposed on vehicles caught violating the weight limit on the first Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.

A representative of the Land Transportation Office promised to look into it.

Roderos is also vice chairman of the MCBMB.

Provincial Treasurer Roy Salubre announced yesterday that the board has a balance of P5.1 million. (JGA)
