Thursday, May 08, 2008 Toral: Promoting event brands through blogs By Janette Toral Digital Filipino
CREATING a blog for an event is a practical ap-proach to increase search engine visibility. It can compliment a website and allow short notes highlighting progressive developments about the event.
This is what I mentioned to a friend who is into marketing high profile events in which speakers are known experts visiting the Philippines.
Take the case of the upcoming Social Networking and eBusiness Conference Philippines 2008 at http://socialnetworkphilippines.blogspot.com. This site is a blog and has sections that point to the various facets of the conference, like the exhibit, conference program and speaker profile, among others.
It is easy to edit as a blog and its own content management system allows several authorized authors or administrators to update it.
Blogs also have built-in RSS (really simple syndication) that can feed data to various search engine automated programs or lots of new updates. This feature helps a lot in propagating the blog’s content much faster.
If you work with a blog administrator, make sure to create the blog first under your own account and give your blog administrator permission to manage it. This way, you have full ownership of the blog and would be able to make changes whenever you need to.
CEBU MEETING. Speaking of events, the DigitalFilipino.com Club is organizing a Cebu E-Commerce and E-Business Owners meet-up this May 13 at Formo, Banilad Town Center. This is hosted by Microsoft Philippines. Those interested to join the free event can visit http://digitalfilipinoclub.blogspot.com for more info.
The last time I organized a major free event in Cebu was two years ago with One Internet Day. I’m glad that there’s another opportunity again to meet friends there and exchange insights on what is happening in the industry today.
Attending meetings like this are a must for entrepreneurs and enthusiasts. For almost a decade, I’ve been organizing events like this and I have been surprised by the numerous initiatives that are not often shared. Collaboration also takes place in like-minded people who find synergy in working together.
A sense of community also gets formed in the process of meeting friends and acquaintances, resulting in more meaningful conversations.
I believe that taking time to meet people in this setting is also a strategic step to remain competitive and strong in the Internet business.
