Friday, May 09, 2008 Jailbreaks, fires prompt team to monitor Talisay
A TEAM of the Provincial Management Monitoring Committee (PMCC) yesterday required the Talisay City Fire Station (TCFS) to submit its complete office profile.
The eight-man PMCC, headed by Director Edmund Amizola, of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Cebu, made ocular inspections on fire and police stations and jail facilities in Cebu south.
Profile
Chief Insp. Felipe Canillas expressed hope that the submission of his station’s profile will help them acquire additional fire equipment, vehicles and personnel.
DILG memorandum circular 94-50 orders the creation of PMCC to assist in promoting peace and public safety and effective local governance, he said.
Ocular
The PMCC is conducting a series of ocular inspections because of rising incidence of jailbreaks and fire occurrences.
At present, Canillas plans to create a second fire sub-station at the soon-to-be completed Talisay City market-cum-terminal in Barangay Lagtang.
The move is aimed at acting swiftly on fire alarms, especially in Barangay Tabunok, the crowded commercial area in Talisay.
Basement
The TCFS presently holds office in the basement of the new Talisay City Hall in Barangay Lawaan I. The old fire office in Barangay Poblacion is being used as its first fire sub-station.
The TCFS has only four fire trucks, including an aerial ladder vehicle, when it was adjudged as the best fire office in 2005, besting all the city fire stations in Central Visayas.
Canillas also got an award as the junior fire officer of the year. (GC)
