Barangay Sirao rules Dance Challenge

THE Dancesport Team Cebu City subscribes to the theory that the future of dancesport is somewhere in the deep recesses of the far-flung barangays of Cebu.

With this in the team’s belief system, they engaged in a wide-range project to disseminate the sport in the barangays.

After just a few years into the project, the team is already seeing products of their hard work.

Last weekend, DTCC staged the Dancesport Challenge 2008: Barangay Team Match that served as a culmination and recital of the summer workshop.

And out of the 500 couples competing in just 14 event, the dance athletes from Barangay Sirao came home with the most medals, boosting DTCC’s grassroots program.

The Sirao athletes collected eight gold medals with two silvers and three bronzes.

The Sirao athletes were exceptionally dominant in the standard dances.

Leading Sirao’s gold medal rush were Rodolfo and Ruby Ardines, who won four titles in the youth open standard, the youth bronze/silver latin event and the youth bronze/silver standard competition.

The duo also won in the Juvenile Bronze/Silver Latin event after tying for first place with Honey Jun Caro and Danira Thea Lim of Poblacion Pardo.

Adding more titles into Sirao’s medal haul were Dominique Joseph Semblante and Jeanymae Ardiente in the pre-adult open standard, Clyve Ardiente and Rodeliza Ardines in the juvebile bronze/silver standard, Reymar Enlish and Felp Mary Arcilla in the junior bronze/silver event.

The event last Sunday saw the Cebu Coliseum filled to the rafters with an expected crowd of 10,000 attending the event. (MCB)
