PBA fines two imports for altercation

MANILA—Erstwhile co-leaders Coca-Cola Tigers and Talk ‘N Text Phone Pals try to regain their share of the lead when they face separate foes today in the resumption of the 2008 Smart-PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

Both the Tigers and the Phone Pals are currently sharing the second spot with identical 5-2 win-loss slate so the winner will thus advance into the top of the team standing along with today’s idle Red Bull, which clinched its 6th win following a 105-78 rout off Sta. Lucia Realty.

The Tigers collide against Magnolia in the first match at 4:50 p.m., while Talk ‘N Text faces lowly Welcoat in the second game at 7:20 p.m.

Meanwhile, Red Bull import Adam Parada and Sta. Lucia’s Wesley Wilson, who were ejected after an altercation in their game Wednesday with only 3:45 remaining, were spared by PBA commissioner Renauld Barrios of the heavy one-game suspension penalty.

The decision came after Barrios called the two imports and listened to their sides in separate meetings yesterday at the PBA office in Libis, Quezon City.

However, Barrios instead fined the two imports, with the 6-foot-11 Wilson paying the most with a total of P65,000—P5,000 for the flagrant foul penalty 1 and P60,000 for a fighting foul.

The 7-foot Parada was assessed with a P20,000 penalty. (FCC)
