Monday, May 12, 2008 Costanilla: Rock with Sonic Flood By Sam Costanilla Spotlight
THERE is an upcoming praise and worship concert that we Cebuanos should not miss on June 14 at the grand ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. My good friend Steve Alfafara e-mailed that the show features Sonic Flood, a multi-awarded gospel rock band whose music is a staple in praise and worship services in churches, and is especially popular with the youth due to its rock-flavored sound. “This band is credited with helping push the modern rock-worship movement by putting electric guitars and audio effects to lyrics that directly worship Jesus as Lord and Savior,” Steve added.

HE also stated that Sonic Flood has released eight albums since its debut in 1999, not to mention over two million records sold. As to the June 14 show, tickets are priced at P1,500, P700 and P300. For sales and reservations, call tel. nos. 4124512, 2326888 and 5169387. Official Sonic Flood ticket outlets include Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Ayala Center customer care counter, SM City customer service desk and Wings Travel and Tours Ayala.

PEOPLE that don’t respect the flag and the national anthem inside cinemas should be fined. I have, on several occasions, noticed that some people do not stand at attention every time the national anthem is played prior to the last full show of a movie. The trouble with local movie houses is that they don’t have enough security guards or even attendants whose task should include monitoring the spectators’ actuations before and during screenings.

YOURS truly had the privilege of emceeing the first ever Sikoy-Sikoy Festival of San Fernando town last Thursday afternoon. I should commend Mayor Lakambini Reluya and her mayor’s action team for pushing through with the event despite the non-cooperation of the vice mayor and his councilors.
It saddens us to know that too much politicking is still in the minds of some people, jeopardizing cultural activities that are supposed to be apolitical.

REMEMBER Jamna Gicole, founder and director of the Apas-based Repertory of Young Professionals in Theater (Rypit)?
She texted me that she is now enjoying her job as an occupational therapist in Brookdale, the second largest nursing facility in the state of Florida. “This facility offers me a great training and a very heavy caseload but I’m trying my best,” Jamna stressed.

SHE also wrote that she is now very excited to watch Lion King on May 24 in Florida and meet with some theater workers and artists there and see how they run their community theaters. Jamna also promised to come home next year and do workshops again. When she was still in Cebu, Rypit was the most active theater company in town.

THE wife of this well-known legislator has a weird way of expressing her anger every time the politico sees his constituents without tagging her along. She usually sits on the legislator’s car hood and moves a lot until it is dented. The wife is a constant figure in the local ballroom circuit. (E-mail: samcost@yahoo.com or text 09268443888).
