Speak out: Argao
By Invicto C. Alcantar
Dalaguete, Cebu

ARGAO is a large town located some 76 kilometers southwest of Cebu City.

It’s one of the largest and most economically stable towns in the province.

It’s also home to many politicians. It’s Kintanar country: Tining, Carey, Ed. It’s also where the Davides reside: Hilario Davide Sr., one-time superintendent of the Bureau of Public School, and Hilario Jr., who is the permanent Philippine representative to the United Nations.

I can’t forget Argao because that is where I graduated high school—Cebu South High School—shortly after the liberation from the Japanese. Our division superintendent then was a certain Dart Williams, an American.

Likewise, Argao is the town adjacent to my hometown of Dalaguete, still farther to the south. I love Argao very much. It’s now part of the second district under Rep. Pabling Garcia.
