Cebu hosts 3 youth tennis tournaments

TENNIS players of all ages will be battling it out this May 19 as three tournaments take center stage at the Cebu Country Club courts.

After last week’s Cebuana Lhuillier Men’s Open, it’s the turn of the top junior players for the Milo Junior Tennis Cup, Prince Cup, and the Gullas Cup.

The tournaments are open to all age categories.

Last year, over 200 tennis players from Cebu and Manila participated in the Gullas Cup.

“The Gullas Cup is a Group 2 Tournament, the biggest tournament outside Manila. Hopefully this year, there will be over 200 participants or more” said Fritz Tabura, the tournament director.

He is also expecting last year’s champions, Francis Largo, Siso siblings—Bernadine, Sallydine, and Sally Mae Siso—Jacob and Jessica Lagman and several others to attend this year.

Because of the early start of the rainy season, organizers are also thinking of holding the events in an indoor court in Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

“We are afraid that it will rain on May 19 so we are thinking of moving the event to a different venue”, Tabura said.

The tournaments will be held from May 19-30 with the Milo Junior Cup taking off first on May 19-22. The Prince Cup will be held right after on May 22-25 and the Gullas Cup will be on May 26-30 at CCC and Casino Español.

All three tournaments offer play from the 10-Under division for boys and girls and the 12 to 18-Under age groups for both boys and girls. STC Mass Comm Intern Tawny Gwynne M. Estolloso.
