Moonlighting as cab driver, cop shot by holdup men

A POLICEMAN is in critical condition after two robbers posing as passengers shot him twice in his taxi in Lapu-Lapu City last night.

SPO4 Asterio Boltron suffered gunshot wounds on his right cheek and on the lower left portion of his back during the robbery past 9 p.m. yesterday on Maximo Patalingjug Ave.

He was rushed to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital where he remains in critical condition, SPO4 Joselito Jumaoas of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section said in a radio dySS interview.

Boltron, a resident of Barangay Gabi in Cordova town, was driving the two when they declared a holdup. Policemen could not say yet if the robbers were able to get anything from the victim.

Jumaoas, who was the first to arrive at the crime scene, said he tried to talk to Boltron on their way to the hospital but the latter could not talk.

As of press time, policemen were still pursuing the two suspects, who were dressed in t-shirts, jeans and a baseball cap.

The incident happened on a deserted stretch of the road. Some bystanders reportedly saw two men running towards Barangay Basak. (LCR)
