Friday, May 16, 2008 Pacquiao:It will be a brawl with Diaz
MANNY Pacquiao and reigning WBC lightweight champion David Diaz both promised a slugfest when the two collide on June 28 for Diaz’s lightweight belt.
“First round pa lang talagang upakan na, this is good because the action on the ring will be intense,” Pacquiao said in a report posted at philboxing.com.
“Yan ang gusto natin ‘todo buhos’. It is important that we will get the belt and it’s going to be a lovely brawl.”
The 29-year-old boxer from General Santos City believes that it would be a difficult fight for him because Diaz, like him, is a southpaw but one thing he likes about his foe is that he is a slugger like him.
Style
“It’s a tough fight because of his style (left-handed) and because he has a will to win. Those are things I have to overcome in this fight. The one good thing is that Diaz likes to fight toe-to-toe, which is what I like too,” said Pacquiao.
Diaz assured that the main event in the “Lethal Combination” fight card will be full of action,
“All-out action fight, pre-4th of July fireworks,” said Diaz.
Diaz he feels honored to fight one of the best fighters in the world, Pacquiao, and he is confident that he will retain his WBC crown after their upcoming war.
“Every fighter, no matter who he is, should want to fight the very best—and that’s what I’ll be doing against Pacquiao,” Diaz said. “I’m not going to lose. I don’t even think of it. I will win and bring the green belt back to my hometown, Chicago,” told Diaz.
This will be Pacquiao’s first fight in the lightweight division after dethroning Juan Manuel Marquez for the WBC super featherweight belt in a unanimous decision last March 15. His nemesis, Marquez, is also going up to the lightweight division along with him. (EKA)
